Prehospital FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma)

Although portable ultrasound devices have been successfully deployed in the European prehospital arena, there is little experience with medic use of ultrasound in the United States.
The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of prehospital use of ultrasound. Emergency medical personnel from Minnesota, Texas, and New York will be trained in the use of lightweight portable ultrasound. A focused didactic and hands-on curriculum will introduce the technology; this will be followed by practice exams performed in the field.
